Without Defilement and Stress, Wisdom Lasts

On July 25, 2009 at 12:00 pm

善知識,我此法門,從一般若,生八萬四千智慧。何以故?為世人有八萬四千塵勞。若無塵勞,智慧常現,不離自性。悟此法者,即是無念。

Virtuous and knowledgeable friend, this dharma-gate of mine, from one Prajna, spawns eighty-four thousand wisdoms. Why is it? Because people possess eighty-four thousand defilements. Without defilements, wisdom continues to show, not departing from self-nature. Awaken to this dharma, attains No-thought.

The number of eighty-four thousand has the symbolic meaning of many or uncountable number in India . Of course, the dharma-gate is not limited to only eight-four thousand types.

If there are no stress and defilements, wisdom is always present and revealing itself. It never leaves one’s Buddha nature.

Attain the Prajna dharma, you reach No-thought. As described in the True Buddha Sutra, No-thought is the true enlightenment of Buddha.

The precepts are very important. When Buddha went into nirvana, He said, “Treat precepts as your teacher.” But when only one person is left in the world, there is no longer good or bad; there is no need for tolerance, and no vows to commit to. Everyone has many thoughts. You need to treat all thoughts as No-thought.

Be aware not to fall into the stubborn emptiness.

Attain the Prajna with great wisdom is the best way to learn tolerance. After you are enlightened, you no longer need to tolerate, as you don’t have temper or anger. You don’t have ignorance and you can dissolve bad thoughts.

Transform the Three Poisons

On July 18, 2009 at 12:00 pm

當用大智慧,打破五蘊煩惱塵勞。如此修行,定成佛道,變三毒為戒定慧。

Wield the paramount wisdom to smash  the Five Aggregates, stress, defilement. Cultivate thusly assures Buddhahood.  Transform the three poisons to precept, concentration, and wisdom.

The Five Aggregates are form, feeling, thinking, volition, and consciousness. The defilements – derivation from the six roots of sensation – eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and creating six defilements – sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, and idea. The six defilements make people feel troubled and distressed. If you can use prajna to break and remove the Five Aggregates and all afflictions and defilements, you will realize the Buddhahood. You will possess great wisdom and transform your greed, hatred and ignorance to precepts, concentration and wisdom.

Three poisons include greed, hatred and ignorance. You are greedy because you are unenlightened. When you are in adverse circumstances, you become angry and therefore are possessed by hatred. You are ignorant when you have no wisdom.

Greed can be the excessive desire for food, sleep, fame, money and sex. Hinayana Buddhism center on precepts. Monks and nuns can’t touch money, can’t make eye contact with the opposite sex, can’t speak with the opposite sex for more than five sentences, can’t get close to the opposite sex, can’t think about fame, can’t eat the five spices, can’t eat after noon and can’t sleep lying down.

Tolerance is part of cultivation. If you master your thoughts and behavior, you are free from fixation. You have successfully removed the five aggregates. If you have done that, then precepts and commandments have no effect on you. If you have not yet attained self-mastery, then you have to abide by the precepts.

Using paramount wisdom is Prajna. Prajna is attained when you see your own Buddha nature and awaken.

We have a disciple who chanted the Root Guru mantra eight million times. She saw Three Sages of the Western Paradise – Amitabha Buddha, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, emerge before her. When she leaves this world, the Three Sages will undoubtedly appear and receive her into the Maha Twin Lotus Pond.

Maha Praja Paramita – Most Supreme and Preeminant

On July 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm

善知識!摩訶般若波羅蜜,最尊最上最第一,無住無往亦無來,三世諸佛從中出。

Virtuous and knowledgeable friend, Maha Prajna Paramita is the most honored, most supreme, most preeminent.  It does not abide, does not go or come; Buddhas of the three ages emerge from within.

In other words, we can say that in our intrinsic nature there is limitless wisdom. Maha Prajna Paramita is originally fully present within our intrinsic nature. We need not seek it outside. It does not abide anywhere, nor does it ever come or go. The Prajna wisdom of our intrinsic nature is attached to nothing. All Buddhas of three ages, the past, present and future, rise from Maha Prajna Paramita – the highest, most supreme, and the most profound.

The 2 key points here are:

1. When one attains enlightenment, nothing is imperfect.

2. Maha Prajna Paramita is not just talks about emptiness.

Buddha Shakyamuni’s enlightenment – Maha Prajna Paramita, under the Bodhi tree is the most precious, profound and supreme.

The Six Paramitas:

1. Tolerance Paramita applies to one’s forbearance and endurance. It is the most difficult to attain. You are able to attain the Tolerance Paramita only because you have awakened. Enlightenment allows you to reach such accomplishment.

2. Diligence Paramita. As long as you keep putting Buddha’s teachings to practice, you would reach such accomplishment.

3. Generosity Paramita can be achieved if you persist in contributing your time, money and energy to help others.

4. Wisdom Paramita. If the practitioner diligently studies the Buddha dharma, he would develop the limitless wisdom.

5. Precept Paramita. You must not violate your vows.

6. Meditation Paramita. From maintaining your vows, you can reach one mind, thus entering the state meditation. From a meditative state, you shall develop wisdom.
